  1. The Summer Beach Party has returned to Lumbridge Crater once again, making it the place to be until the 12th September. Along with your old favourites, there's a new Treasure Map feature for daily free items, as well as two new activities: Terrorbird Racing and Hook-a-Duck, for Agility and Hunter XP respectively. Be sure to check out the newest addition to Solomon's Store, too: the Satyr Outfit. Finally, catch Mod Osborne talking live at Gamescom on 17th August at 15:00 UTC (game time)! Welcome to the Beach Activities The fun, XP-giving passtimes from last year's Beach Party have returned , along with some awesome new additions. NEW - Terrorbird Races Complete laps as quickly as you can for maximum Agility XP and a chance to be on the hiscores page, viewable by clicking on the start gate. Pick up a terrorbird mount by the starting gate to get started, or use your (now recolourable) April Fools' terrorbird mount. Races start on the hour. Good luck! NEW - Hook-a-Duck Wield a rod and hook a duck for Hunter XP. Fight Clawdia The raging crustacean spawns every 45 minutes after the hour. Her damage scales to your current life points, so everyone can dive in and help drive her back. Old Favourites Of course, the summer fun from last year returns. Whatever you fancy training, there's something for you: Sandcastles Construction XP Rock pool fishing Fishing XP Barbecues Cooking XP Coconut gathering/depositing Farming XP Coconut shy Ranged XP Beachball rolling Agility XP Muscle beach Strength XP Every 15 minutes one of the XP-giving activities will be spotlighted, yielding +10% XP. Please note that the spotlighted activity varies from world to world. You can keep earning XP until your temperature gauge fills up completely, although this can be reset up to three times a day by consuming ice creams. Please note that Ironman players earn 50% less XP for participating in beach activities. JMods can activate Happy Hour on the beach to really get the party started. Happy Hour will spotlight all beach activities except for Terrorbird Racing and will freeze all temperature gauges, earning you a bonus hour of beach skilling! Treasure Map | Daily Rewards The Treasure Map is a new feature which you can use to collect handy items each day from 16th August until 11th September. Speak to Reyna in Lumbridge Crater to collect the map, then click it in your inventory to get started. The interface will update each day to show another cross on the map, which can be clicked to claim the treasure. There's also the option to use a Bond to claim any prizes you have missed see the right-hand side of the interface. Note that using the Bond option also allows you to claim any prizes you may miss later in the event, as they are released, up until the event ends. You will never need to use more than one Bond to unlock missed Treasure Map items. Rewards There are a number of useful items that you can earn by fighting Clawdia and participating in other beach activities: Ice cream: This tradeable, consumable item resets a full temperature gauge to 0. You can use up to three per day. Anti-sun potion: Also tradeable, this item gives a +5% boost to any XP earned through beach activities and any other training on the beach. The effect lasts for 24 hours of real time. Cocktails: These come in four fruity flavours, each boosting XP gain in a different group of skills combat, artisan, gathering and support. By drinking more of the same type, you can stack the XP boost up to 10%. The effect lasts for 30 minutes of logged-in time. Please note: These items will be removed from game on the 3rd October. There's also a rare chance to get tradeable tokens that can be redeemed for one of several new beach items. Please note: The tokens will become untradeable at the end of this year. These items can also be purchased from the vendors around the beach for RuneCoins, as can challenge gems, dwarven challenge barrels, party packs and masterwork music boxes. Finally, there's a bunch of secret rewards available for fulfilling certain conditions on the beach. Have fun discovering them! Satyr Outfit | Solomon's Store Head to Solomon's General Store now and pick up the Satyr Outfit. As with the Flourishing Fairy Outfit which we released last month, the Satyr Outfit is designed with recolourable sections and comes with a teleport animation. Grab it from Solomon's Store now! Enjoy! Top up that tan, eat those ice creams and - most importantly - have fun! The RuneScape Team See the patch notes for further details on this week's update. 5. Wilderness newbies and veterans alike should definitely take a walk on the wild side this week. From stealable Slayer contracts and new skilling spots to Task Sets for players of levels, there are more reasons than ever to lose yourself in the wild and earn great rewards in the process. Be sure to check out all the improvements and features, along with the usual patch notes and other news. Wilderness Task Set The Wilderness can be a really intimidating place for a new RuneScape player to start but thanks to the new Task Set, there is a now a structured way to make your first steps into these dangerous but fruitful lands. Experienced players will also have loads to gain from playing through the Tasks, not least the powerful Wilderness sword detailed in the Rewards section below. For convenience, Tasks can be done in any order, but you cant claim a set's rewards until you've completed it and all the tasks in the previous ones. Requirements RuneScape members only The Easy Set has no requirements at all. Later Task Sets have increasingly high requirements, full details of which can be found in the Adventures interface, under the Achievements tab. Rewards As well as an XP lamp, completing the Easy set of Tasks will earn you the Wilderness Sword. This weapon upgrades as you complete each harder set of tasks and its bonuses stack as follows: Tier 1 (Easy Tasks) Free teleports to the Wilderness herb patch & Edgeville Locates the Wildywyrm Tier 2 (Medium Tasks) +5% XP at Wilderness Agility Course (the sword must be equipped) Improved pickpocket rates at rogues Teleports to Forinthry Dungeon Tier 3 (Hard Tasks) Provides air obelisk shortcut Quick teleports to Wilderness lodestone Access to item un-noter at the Chaos Altar No disease at the Wilderness herb patch Choice of destination at the Wilderness Obelisk Chance to teleport to centre of the Abyss (the sword must be equipped) Tier 4 (Elite Tasks) 1 free daily teleport to the Warbands camp of your choice Lava strykewyrms drop noted ashes (sword must be equipped or in your inventory) Free teleports to Wilderness Agility Course Improved drop rate for ancient warrior equipment in Forinthry dungeon Team capes give the effects of Avas devices Claim your rewards from the following taskmasters: Easy Tasks Mr Ex, Edgeville. Medium Tasks Mandrith, Edgeville bank. Hard Tasks Quercus, on the Wilderness wall between Edgeville and the Grand Exchange. Elite Tasks Kolodion in the Mage Arena. Enjoy getting out there, completing those Tasks and earning this stunning new weapon! Wilderness Improvements Be aware that weve reverted the way stackable objects are considered when protecting items on death in the Wilderness. Stackable objects are once again considered to be separate objects, rather than an individual stack. Please keep this in mind when exploring the new skilling and features of the Wilderness, as detailed below. Improved Wilderness Skilling The revitalised Wilderness is now full of new and improved skilling spots, each offering excellent XP and even the unique new bloodweed herb. Cursed Divination Wisps Visit the Sword of Edicts and catch the cursed wisps. The wisps in this location are highly variable meaning anyone can train at them. They offer differing XP rates in a similar manner to the Ourania Runecrafting altar. Once memories caught here are converted to energy, they can be weaved into any of the standard energies, provided you have the Divination level to harvest them. Chaos Altar Prayer Training The Chaos Altar in level 12 Wilderness now functions as an equivalent to the gilded altar (+350% XP) in a player-owned house without the need to light burners. Also, after completing the Hard tier of the Wilderness Task set (details in the section below), a friendly NPC un-noter becomes available in this location. Rogues Castle Pickpocketing Rogues in the Rogues Castle now can be pickpocketed for bloodweed seeds (see the bloodweed section below for more details). Pickpocketing them also works the same way as pickpocketing in Prifddinas except that when you are caught you cant pickpocket rogues on that level of the castle for 30 seconds, oh and youre in the Wilderness too, so watch your back! Wilderness Slayer Contracts New Wilderness Slayer contracts work like ones from the Slayer Tower except that if you are killed whilst in possession of one, the player who kills you can take it, work it and cash it out! Other than that, they offer the same additional +20% of the Slayer XP you would get from killing a Slayer creature on assignment. Additionally, the Wilderness Slayer contracts will stack with the Demonic Skill improvements. See section below for more detail. Charming Moths Charming moths can only be caught barehanded, but rewards players with the four standard summoning charms. Requires level 88 Hunter and level 83 Agility. Bloodweed and New Potions A new herb patch has been placed near the canoe exit. Any herb can be grown here but more importantly this is the only place in Gielinor where the brand new bloodweed can grow. Bloodweed requires level 57 Farming to grow. Thanks to bloodweed, three new potions can now be made, each giving amazing effects wherever you use them: Luck potion: Bloodweed + crushed dragonstone. Ring of wealth effect for 60 mins. Requires level 57 Herblore. Tradeable. Camouflage potion: Bloodweed + black salamander. Hides your dot on the minimap for 60 seconds to aid in sneak attacks. Requires level 65 Herblore. Untradeable. Aggression potion: Bloodweed + searing ashes. Makes all attackable NPCs aggressive to you for 6 mins. Requires level 82 Herblore. Tradeable. Other Wilderness Improvements Wilderness Banks All of the Wilderness team cape sellers now act as bankers! Note that the banks cannot be opened in combat, and are closed if attacked. Please note Richard in Edgeville and Larry at the Gamers Grotto do not have the option to bank. Skulled Vendor & Better Bandits Noterazzo in the Bandit Camp, now has a stock of highly desirable items. The catch is, he'll only trade with you if youre skulled! Be aware that the bandits in the Bandit Camp have also had their combat stats improved and have been given more powerful weapons. They won't hesitate to annihilate you if you aren't skulled already. Noterazzo sells fifty of various general store tools but his more interesting stock includes 3000 Broad arrowheads. Vial pack and water vial packs are available at 90% their usual store price. Gold leaf, marble block, algarum thread, reinforcing plate and stone of binding also appearing at 90% price. Bloodweed seeds are also sold by him but he only has 5, costing 50,000 coins each. Noterazzo restocks at midnight. Wilderness Switches A pair of switches has been added to the forest in the south-eastern edge of the Wilderness. Rack up the highest score you can by pressing one after the other as many times as possible without dying. Your exploits will be broadcast at the following press milestones 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and so on. The chain of presses ends when you are killed or log out. Muddy Chest The muddy chest in the lava maze had an updated drop table. Bloodweed seeds may be acquired here along with random chances of getting items like the dragon longsword, limpwurt root, the crystal key and blood runes. Free-to-play players may still open the chest but won't receive any members objects. The chest will always drop 5000 coins. Magic Axe Hut Similarly, the chest in the magic axe hut has been rebalanced to offer better rewards whilst maintain its low-level (level 23 Thieving and a lockpick). Refreshed random drops include the rune battleaxe, mithril axe, muddy key and anchovy pizza. Demonic Skull Purchasing and wearing the demonic skull from the Mage of Zamorak in the Wilderness now also gives improved Agility XP at the Wilderness course. Starting at level 50, this will scale up, leading to double XP at level 75 and eventually triple XP at level 99. Slayer XP in the Wilderness, Farming XP for collecting produce, Hunter XP at charming moths & Divination XP gained at the cursed crater are all boosted by 20% while wearing it too! Whether youre new to the Wilderness or an old hand at surviving and thriving, we hope you enjoy this bumper update to its content! 11. Hey there, I'd like to introduce you all to a couple of PvP updates coming to RuneScape in the near future: Deathmatch and Bounty Hunter. The designs for both and posted below and we are eager to hear your feedback on what we have planned for you. Deathmatch Summary Deathmatch is a safe death free-for-all arena that takes place in the Crucible arena. Up to 30 players will join the arena and they will all have 10 minutes to kill as many of each other as possible. Once the game is over players will receive reward points based on how well they performed during the fight. These reward points can be spent on untradeable items in a reward shop, which will help gear up into entry-level PvP. Getting into the Game Deathmatch will replace the Crucible arena. To get to Deathmatch, use the trapdoor in Edgeville to be teleported to the waiting area, which is a floating island above the Crucible arena itself. This is a sharded area, which means the trapdoor on all worlds will transfer everyone to a single world akin to the clan portal. The waiting island has: A portal to return back to Edgeville A bank A sign up board There are only two brackets, above combat level 100 and below combat level 100. Those below combat level 100 can join either. Upon signing up, players can join a game in progress immediately or wait for the next game. There should be more time fighting in Deathmatch than waiting. Game Mechanics At the start of the game, players will be all be teleported into the arena randomly placed near the middle. They will all be able to see each other and a countdown will appear on screen. During this countdown the players are immune from attacks, stunned and bound in place. As soon as the countdown is completed all players will be un-stunned at the same time and can attack each other. The game will last 10 minutes. A kill is awarded through a player in the arena dying. The player who did the most damage will be awarded the kill. All other players that did damage over a threshold are awarded an assist for that kill. Around the arena there are power ups which help players do better by killing the most other players possible in the time given. When a player dies, they will respawn in one of the four bank areas in the Crucible where there will be a bank, a supply table of bandages and the crevice to re-enter the arena at a random exit crevice. This will confer a short period of immunity to prevent crevice camping. At any point a player can leave the game using the exit crevices, which will take them to the bank area. Once in the bank area there is another crevice that will take you back to the waiting area. In-Game Overlay During the game, the following information is displayed through the in-game overlay. 1. Game Timer The game timer can be found in the top left of the overlay. This displays how long is left until the end of the game. When it reaches 0, the game will end and players will see a scoreboard showing how well they and their opponents did. 2. Important Messages Important information is displayed to the player though overhead info boxes. This is so the player doesn't have to look at their chatbox while fighting, they can keep their focus on their character at all times. These can be toggled off in the settings interface however. 3. The scoreboard This displays how you and your opponents are doing. Your score is the number shown in the large globe. To the right of that, you can see how well the top 5 players are currently doing so you always know how you compare to the best. 4. Kill feed Whenever a player dies in the arena the name of them and their killer is shown in the kill feed alongside a picture of the weapon that killed them. This not only shows all kills made in the arena but it keeps the screen from looking stagnant if a player isn't fighting. 5. Power up information In the bottom left you can find power up information. At the bottom you can see how much armour you've have left. Above that you can see how long you have left on your active power up. More on power ups below. Power ups Power ups are an important part of the Deathmatch arena. Aside from being fun, they provide mechanics for both new and experienced players. For new players, power ups are a chance to even up the playing field. Picking up the right power up can easily help them defeat even the most experienced PKer, which helps a new player's early PvP experience feel less punishing on them. For experienced players, the power ups add a new way to raise their game above just being good at PvP. The position and respawn times of the power ups are fixed, with the exception of the super powers ups. This means that an experienced player will need to learn to time where to be at the right time to get the power up if they are going to complete against other experienced players. Power ups all sit on the same base, so they have a common visual theme. To pick up a power up, all a player needs to do is run over it. When they run over it the power up spot will turn into an empty container and the player will benefit from its effect. After a period of time, the power up will become active again, ready to be picked up. The power ups break down into two categories: regular and super. Regular powers ups have fixed and relatively short re-spawn times, and are active at the start of the game. These tend to give a player a helping hand, but won't make the player a killing machine. Super power ups have a variable and long respawn time, are not active at the beginning of the game and can be as over powered as we are willing to make them. All power ups except Armour (see below) are active power ups. Only one power up can be active at a time, and picking up another active power up will override any currently active power up. Regular power ups Armour Armour pick ups come in two sizes: a large gold-trimmed pick up which is on a long respawn and gives the player 100 armour, and a smaller untrimmed pick up which is on a shorter respawn which provides 50 armour. Armour provides active damage reduction against all damage types. A player receives 0-33% damage reduction for their first 100 armour and 33-100% damage reduction for the next 100 armour. Armour will max out at 200 which provides 100% damage immunity. As a player takes damage, their amount of armour will degrade based on the amount of damage they would have taken before it was reduced. Healing over Time The Healing over Time power up will give the player a constant healing effect akin to the enhanced Excalibur special attack. It lasts for 45 seconds and will heal 10% of a player's maximum potential life points every 3 seconds. Super power ups Super power ups are the ones that players will strive hardest to obtain. The super power ups are not active at the start of the game and have a variable respawn time. Currently they respawn between 2.5 and 3.5 minutes. When a super power up does spawn, all players will be notified through the Important Information box. There are multiple super power up spawn locations, spaced out far apart from each other. When a super power up spawns, a player doesn't know which of these locations just became active. This is deliberate as it funnels players to 3 areas instead of just one, which could get rather too chaotic with 30 players. When a super power up spawns, it is a random one from a pool of given power ups. When a super power up is picked up players will be told who picked up the power up and what they picked up through the Important Information box. Overpowered Overpowered will cause all attacks performed by the player to do 4 times the amount of damage they would normally do for 30 seconds. Either run away or work together to kill its user quickly...your choice. Either way, if you don't have it, you're probably going to die. Cabbage time This turns all food in the inventories of all other players in the arena into cabbage for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds the food will return to your inventory. Eating cabbage will not use up the food you previously had. If you don't have space in your inventory after the time is up the food will be banked. If it cannot be banked it will be dropped on the floor and the player will be notified though the important information box. This not only means the powered up player can easily outlast and KO anyone in the arena, but it also causes a large amount of deaths in the arena and causes the scores to not be as stable as you may have thought it was! Chicken Army This grants the ability to call upon a chicken army. For every successful hit a player makes with this power up active, a level 198 chicken will spawn and attack your opponent. Each chicken is the equivalent of a maxed level player fighting alongside you. These chickens will continue to be added up to a maximum of 10 chickens at a time. These will last for 30 seconds or until the player dies. Once the power up is done, the chickens will disappear in a puff of smoke. There are plenty of other power ups still in development, such as Vampyrism, Adrenaline Boost, Cooldown Removal and Call upon the Ninja Te..I mean Death Lotus Assasins! The power ups are arranged in such a way that they are not too close to each other, but are close enough for a player to easily run between them. Regular power ups are placed inside areas that provide good cover and places that can be used to block attacks to kite other players. The 100 armour and super power ups are deliberately placed in choke points and regularly traveled areas between the easily controlled areas. Supreme Hunter As the game progresses, the supreme hunter mechanic will come into effect. This is a tribute to the original Crucible, and also a mechanic to enable PvP hotspots and more fun/tension in the arena. Provided 20 or more people are in the arena, the "Essence of death" will spawn in the arena and all players will be informed. When players enter the proximity of the Essence of Death, they'll have a new bar above their head that fills up as the player remains near the essence. The first person to fill the bar will become the Supreme Hunter. As everyone's bar is displayed - players can see the current "leader" and aim to kill them to stop them becoming the Supreme Hunter. Further to this, if you kill someone who is standing near the essence, you'll get half of their bar should you kill them. So if Player A has 80% full and Player B has 10% but kills Player A, Player B will go to 50% for killing them. When the Supreme Hunter is assigned, they'll be given the weapons for the role and everyone will be told who the Supreme Hunter is. The Supreme Hunter can attack anyone and be attacked by everyone. To prevent them being piled and killed by everyone who isn't the Supreme Hunter they can use the special attack on their supreme weapons: "Supreme Defenders" which requires 75% of the special energy (Adrenaline). This special attack will summon 10 souls from beyond the grave that will fight for the Supreme Hunter, following them around and killing players on their behalf. For each soul that is alive, the Supreme Hunter will have 10% damage reduction. So while all the souls are alive, the Supreme Hunter is invincible. As the players kill the souls off they reduce the Supreme Hunter's damage reduction. The Supreme Hunter should be focused on generating special attack energy/adrenaline to keep performing the attack and keeping their damage reduction up. The end of the game and the scoreboard At the end of 10 minutes or once a player gets 30 kills, the game will end and show rankings for all players who took part in the game. For each player it will show: Their rank in the game. Their name. How many kills they were awarded. How many times they died. How many assists they were awarded. At the bottom of the score board they will be shown their personal stats and how many reward points they earned to be spent at a reward shop. Reward Points The amount of points awarded per game depends on a player's personal performance. The rank and performance of others does not affect their reward - beyond whether or not they gave the player in question a hard time! A player is awarded for both kills and assists and for not dying. Bounty Hunter Bounty hunter is an extension to the Wilderness, which themes it up with a minigame. Players are periodically assigned a target to kill and gain rewards for killing that target, known as a bounty kill. While waiting for a target players are welcome to kill anyone they see that isn't their target, this is known as a rogue kill. Bounty Hunter Worlds Bounty hunter will be restricted to two worlds: one Legacy only and one EoC only. Legacy and EoC get separate worlds since they cannot competitively fight each other, and the number of worlds will be restricted to get good volumes of players together. On bounty worlds, players will only be able to enter Edgeville, Varrock Grand Exchange and the Wilderness. All other areas of the game will be restricted. The Bounty System After a short period of being logged in to a bounty world, two players will be assigned to kill each other as bounty targets. It is down to those players to find and kill each other. A hint arrow will show on screen what direction their target can be found at, and an unlockable spell will offer a teleport directly to their bounty target. Getting a target The time it takes to get a target varies but should take around 15 minutes on average. While waiting, players are encouraged to fight other players waiting for a target and will be rewarded for doing so. After a short minimum waiting period a player is added to a queue and match made against other players. Matchmaking is matched on a new rating system called Bounty Rating. The difference between a bounty targets ratings depends on how long they have been waiting, the longer a player has been waiting for a target the larger the difference between theirs and their opponents rating can be. Bounty Rating Bounty rating is an Elo-based rating system. A player's rating is defined by their rating bracket and their bracket rating. A player's bracket groups them with a large amount of players of a similar skill and are primarily matched up against those. The brackets for bounty hunter are named after the revenants: Imp Goblin Icefiend Pyrefiend Hobgoblin Vampyre Werewolf Cyclops Hellhound Demon Ork Dark Beast Knight Dragon Inside each bracket a player has a rating number. This number compares them to every other player in the bracket. Brackets will be re-calculated once a week. Initially, only Imp bracket will be live. New brackets will be introduced once a week until all brackets are introduced. Gaining or losing rating Rating is gained or lost when a player is killed on a bounty world. The Bounty Rating system uses an Elo-based system. When two players fight, the amount of rating they can gain or lose from the fight depends on their opponents rating. Fighting an opponent with a higher rating awards more rating as a reward and means losing less rating from losing. Fighting an opponent with a lower rating leads to smaller rating gains for winning and larger rating losses for losing a fight. Getting Bounty Rewards Rewards for bounty hunter will be taking inspiration from old school in that we will be using emblems which trade in for points in the reward store. Emblems will come in 10 tiers and your first tier emblem is guaranteed on a bounty kill. After that a bounty emblem needs to be held in a player inventory when a kill is made for it to upgrade. Statistically it is always worth upgrading an emblem as the amount of bounty reward points it is worth is higher than the chance for it to upgrade. The chance for an emblem to upgrade is influenced by the following things: Rogue kills do award emblems but a bounty kill is far more likely to upgrade an emblem. A bounty emblem knows how many times it didn't upgrade; the more times it didn't upgrade the greater the chance of it upgrading. Killing an opponent of a high rating increases your chance of upgrading an emblem. Killing an opponent of a lower rating lowers your chance of upgrading an emblem. Hiscores A hiscores table for ratings will not be released alongside the bounty hunter update. We do plan to release then around the time that Dragon league is released. In the mean time you will be able to quick chat your rating and show off your league with one of the rewards detailed below. Rewards Rewards are split up in to two categories: Death Match Rewards These are untradeable and limited to entry-level PvP rewards Bounty Hunter rewards These are mostly tradeable and have no limit on how powerful they can be Below is the current list of rewards for Bounty Hunter and Deathmatch. Please note that these rewards are still subject to a balancing pass, but will be as close to as described as it can be. Well the sad news is that it has been pushed back to later in 2016 as more time was needed to make the Elo ratings and matchmaking server. This is an essential part of creating a non-abuseable reward system for Bounty Hunter and to finally offer you an more accurate representation of how skilful PKers are. The good news is that in place of Bounty Hunter's August release date we will be releasing a whole host of updates to the Wilderness along with a Wilderness Task Set to introduce them all to you! Please give us as much feedback as you can on the listed design and we will take everything on board to make Bounty Hunter and Deathmatch the best experiences we can! 14. This month is all about extreme challenges, as we venture back into the Wilderness for a selection of brand new activities including a super risky achievement diary. Also, its time to dust off our skilling outfits in search of the highly elusive skilling pets. Of course, if you just want to kick back this summer and catch some rays, then head to the Beach! Wilderness Activities The Wilderness activities being launched this month are epic. Even if youre not an avid PKer, theres something just right for you in one of the biggest updates weve ever attempted for these dark and twisted lands. If youre into Divination, weve turned the Sword of Edicts spot to a giant Divination spot, able to create energy of any type depending on your level. Naturally the XP rates on offer are very generous, so take a buddy with you to watch your back! If Farming or Herblore is more your cup of tea, weve 3 new potions in store luck potions, camouflage potions (that can hide your minimap dot) and aggression potions that make all combat NPCs attack you on sight - all of which use the new bloodweed herb that can only be grown in special patches in the Wilderness. For the combatants, try venturing into the freshly updated bandit camp. Bandits have been tooled up and levelled quite considerably, being aggressive only to those who arent skulled. There is a stock of highly desirable items held inside, but the risk of obtaining them is high. Or perhaps its a bit of Slayer youre after? If so, youll be able to pick up special contracts for killing Wilderness-only creatures, although these can be lost through PKing, with the progress carrying over to the new owner. For Hunter, try out the charming moths on the far east coast. These giant furry blighters can be caught bare handed, with generous XP and summoning charms on offer. Weve also changed rogues so they can be pickpocketed, added banks to the cape vendors, upgraded the demonic skull to work on 6 different skills in the Wilderness, giving you lots of additional XP and upgraded the chaos alter. Win! Wilderness Achievement Diary And weve not even mentioned the new achievement diary yet! The diary contains easy, medium, hard and elite tasks just like its less bloodthirsty brothers. Youll be expected to raid warbands, create bakriminel bolts, kill the chaos elemental, run laps, take canoes. all sorts! But its worth it - those who complete it will gain the Wilderness sword, XP lamps and upgrades to several of the old and new Wildy training methods. Skilling Pets After the boss pets made a big impact last year, weve been tinkering away with bringing the same joy and rarity to skillers for all the non-combat skills. The higher your level, the higher the chance to get the drop and earn unique titles. You can earn them by simply doing anything that you could earn shattered heart rocks from, which is about 95% of all the skilling activities in the game! Our highlight pets include the Thieving Raccoon pet, the Runic Dragon (fresh from the RuneSpan) and Woody who features in both Woodcutting and Firemaking. Burn, little man, burn!!! The Beach Its time to bust out the Bermuda shorts and slap on some sunscreen the Beach is back for another four weeks of sun-soaked fun. All your favourites from last year are back: coconut shy, coconut collecting, sandcastle building, fishing, beachball rolling, battleships, cooking grills, strongmen and portals, not to mention Clawdia herself. On top of that theres a ton of new activities: terrorbird racing, daily treasure hunts, a hook-a-duck game for training your Hunter skill, and some truly awesome rewards, including starfish and seahorse pets, a towel cape, and a wearable shark fin. Treasure Hunters on hand to make your summer all the sunnier, too, with Beach-inspired pintas, Beach-XP boosters and a very cute seahorse pet. Theres an extra key available to all members throughout August, so its a great time to open those chests! Elsewhere, keep an eye out for the Satyr outfit - the latest in the Fae Collection - on Solomons Store, and a spectacular Crystal Peacock pet yours with selected gamecard purchases this month. In Other News Were also aiming to release a graphical rework to White Wolf Mountain and Catherby, harnessing the full power of NXT. Catherby will be updated to look like a real rustic fishing village, and White Wolf is becoming and ACTUAL MOUNTAIN. Get ready for some stonking views. Oh, and dont forget your RuneFest tickets! 17th September 2016 in London. Be there or be somewhere else. Have fun! 16. Treasure Hunters on hand to make your summer all the sunnier, too, with Beach-inspired pintas, Beach-XP boosters and a very fetching sombrero. 17. Hello everyone, Earlier this week, we shared more information on the Mining & Smithing rework in a live stream, on our forums and across social media. That led to huge amount of feedback from you all, which we didnt want to rush through or ignore. With that in mind, weve taken the tough decision to postpone Mining & Smithing to next year. Why? Its important that the Mining & Smithing Rework is the update you want: it changes the game you play, and you asked for it in last years survey. But, when we presented the design, it was clear that we werent close enough to what you expected. You had a lot of fair feedback and concerns, including issues with the core parts of the update. In particular, you felt the update was bloated with things you didnt need or didnt need changing, yet was leaving a lot unfinished. We want to make sure that we get this right first time. We also want to spend time chatting with you, to highlight and solve the core issues. Lets produce something that benefits the game now and in the long-term, while also meeting your expectations. What now? Mining & Smithings September schedule slot will be filled with a number of updates that focus on improving the game, and well share those updates next week. We will also use some of the additional time to get a head start for the epic Sliske's Endgame quest! Once again, we're sorry for the delay, but we feel were making the right decision for Mining & Smithing and the game for years to come. If you don't manage to catch the armour during Hearts of Fire, don't panic! 21. You suggested it and now its finally here RuneScape has a brand new region waiting for you to set sail and explore. Once you meet the requirements, head over to The Arc islands via Port Sarim for skilling, hunting, slaying and so much more. When youve earned yourself some currency there, blast into the neighbouring Uncharted Isles and lay claim to your very own island paradise. Also this week is the lifting of the Invention XP-item amnesty. Read on for all the details about that, as well as our usual patch notes, streaming info and other news. Requirements: RuneScape members only. To access the Arc islands, you only need to have completed the mini-quest Impressing the Locals. Speak to Trader Stan in Port Sarim to begin. To explore the uncharted isles and claim your own island you must have one or more of the following skills at level 90: Fishing, Hunter, Slayer and Woodcutting. Miniquests in and around the Arc islands will have individual requirements. The Arc Islands The first three islands of an area called The Arc are now here for you to explore! Get ready for a host of different action-packed activities, challenges, skilling opportunities, miniquests, characters, nuggets of lore and so much more. Arrive first at the trade hub of Waiko. Talk to the various characters who inhabit this bustling and vibrant marketplace. Take on miniquests, continue the Slaver storyline or carry out tasks to earn the unique currency, chimes, which can be spent on the resources necessary to start the second part of this initial Eastern Lands release: exploring the Uncharted Isles, but more on that later in the post! Secondly, travel to Whales Maw. Located in prime fishing waters this is the perfect spot for training your Fishing and Hunter skills. Finally there's Aminishi a Slayer-focussed island. Investigate the mysterious cult of monks who inhabit it and discover their links to the monstrous spirit dragons. What secrets will you discover in this strange and wondrous place? Additional islands, some of which you can see on the Arcs map screen, will be added in future content releases. For now, lets look at the other part of this bumper initial Eastern Lands update. Explore the Uncharted Isles find your own island paradise Once you have earned enough chimes, the unique currency of the Eastern Lands, you will be able to spend them on Supplies from the market in Waiko. Once you have enough Supplies (and meet a level requirement detailed above) you will be able to explore the Uncharted Isles. This is a procedurally generated region where every voyage brings up more uniquely shaped islands with random assortments of resources. Land on any island you discover, skill, kill or chill there for a while, then move on to the next one in search of different riches. This is where the really high-level skilling is to be discovered in the Eastern Lands and youll have to keep on exploring the Uncharted Isles for a chance to find it. When you find one you like, place a flag on it to save it as your own permanent, private resort. Once decided upon, you can return to your island whenever you like. Perhaps you picked it because of its abundance of useful skilling resources or perhaps you just like the shape its up to you to explore and discover. You can even add customisation to your new base too, including a fabulous hammock that you can use to change the time of day. The best islands with the biggest riches will cost the most of supplies to reach. Save up by taking part in as many Arc activities as possible and launch a voyage farther into the unknown that any Scaper has gone before! Remember - this is only the first part of the Eastern Lands expansion and many more features are planned. Stay tuned for further news of the upcoming additions to this wonderful new horizon for RuneScape. Now get exploring! The Eastern Lands are all about exploring and its a clean slate for you all. What will you discover? The RuneScape Team Invention XP Amnesty You will now be able to buff your Invention progress by using items such as prismatic lamps, stars other sources of regular or Bonus XP. 23. 24. Treasure Hunter is playable from within RuneScape, allowing players to use Keys to claim in-game items as prizes. These range from useful resources to rare weapons and exclusive gear. Playing Treasure Hunter is simple - click the treasure chest icon that pops up when you log in. If you've not played before, just follow the on-screen guide. Everyone gets at least one Key per day, and RuneScape members get two. You can earn more Keys while playing the game, or stock up by redeeming Bonds. If you'd like more, you can also buy Keys on the website, or by clicking 'Buy Keys' within the Treasure Hunter interface in-game. Powered By WizardRSS.com | Full Text RSS Feed View the full article
  25. So far in the Arc Dev Blogs, we've given you Mod Joe's overview of July's Arc project, Mod Orion's exploration of procedurally generated Uncharted Islands, Mod Rowley's reveals about the Arc's narrative, and Mod Hing has provided insights into the challenges he faced animating the spirit dragons of Aminishi. To conclude this series of dev blogs, Mod Stu discusses the economic loop of the Arc, including skilling, merchanting, rewards, and contracts. Closed Economy The foundation of the Eastern Lands experience is a closed economy: the majority of items you can gather, refine and purchase cannot be obtained elsewhere, and are not tradeable with other players or on the Grand Exchange. You'll travel to the eastern frontier where the gold coin of the West has no value. When you head there, youll need to be self-sufficient, as your progress through the Arc cannot be accelerated or bypassed with foreign gold. Skilling and Merchanting The core loop of activity in the Arc is skilling and merchanting. You sell the product of your skills to merchants for currency, and invest that currency in voyages to Uncharted Isles to discover better skilling plots and lost treasures of the East. You'll begin your journey on the island of Waiko, a merchant hub. Resources These are the raw items you gather in the Wushanko Isles, such as bamboo from Woodcutting, tortoise shell from Hunting, or the humble wushroom that grows wild on Uncharted Isles. Resources can be sold to specific merchants (such as raw fish to the Waiko fish merchant), but resources are not worth anywhere near as many chimes as commodities (see below). Note that some of these resources, such as bamboo, can be found in your Player Owned Port. The port authority will not allow you to take Ports resources out of Ports. Commodities Resources can be processed with your artisan skills to turn them into commodities, which are more valuable and easier to transport. For example, you could cook raw fish into fish oil or fletch bamboo into stackable bundles. Commodities are worth more to merchants, which means more chimes to reward the extra effort you put into making them. Arc gumbo, for example, is a stew that uses almost all Arc resources as ingredients, and is well worth the investment when sold to the Waiko cook. To gather and process Arc resources, you'll need level 90+ in the appropriate gathering or artisan skill. Chimes These are the primary currency of the Arc. You'll spend chimes to purchase supplies, and to unlock a variety of rewards. As with resources, Ports chimes cannot be taken out of your Port. Supplies These are purchased with chimes from the chandler on Waiko, and displayed on the map interface of your ship. You can travel between the local islands of Waiko, Whale's Maw and Aminishi for free, but you'll need supplies to explore an Uncharted Isle. The most valuable islands are furthest from civilisation; the further you travel in search of the richest resources, the more supplies you'll need to reach your destination. Taijitu These (in addition to being very difficult to spell) are a secondary currency. They're required to unlock some of the most valuable rewards: notably upgrades. They're awarded from completing finite content such as miniquests, and from plundering rare treasure chests on Uncharted Isles. Rewards Succeed in the Eastern Lands and youll earn upgrades (such as a permanent % increase to the chimes you get from selling commodities to merchants), decorations and hotspots for your claimed island, Ports resources and trade goods(!), XP lamps and cosmetics. Contracts These are another layer of activity on top of the core skilling loop. You're probably already familiar with the contracts in the Morytania Slayer Tower: you're given a scroll listing a number of monsters to kill (though you don't need to carry the scroll to progress), and rewarded for completing the contract on your return. Wushanko contracts are similar, but Slayer contracts are only one of many available objectives. there's a contract for each skilling activity in the Arc, from cooking shark oil or mining resource crabs to simply collecting driftwood from the shores of Uncharted Isles. Or you can roll a combat contract and murder a variety of level-scaled inhabitants of Uncharted Isles. You monster. As with Daily Challenges, you can complete a limited number of contracts per day. This limit can be raised by purchasing a permanent upgrade in the Waiko Reward Shop. Unlike Daily Challenges, you don't have to hand in resources to complete the contract. You can also re-roll contracts until you get one you prefer, but this will cost you chimes. There are also specialist contracts given out by certain adventurers (if you've unlocked them through Ports), such as the Assassin on Aminishi who provides Slayer contracts exclusively for the Acolytes of Seiryu, and the Whaler on Whale's Maw who provides contracts for the rare fish to be discovered there. The Arc is less than a week away, and were excited for you to finally get your hands on it. Get ready to set sail!
